‘We can see this book being relished in Early Years and KS1 classrooms as part of winter themed topics’ Books for Topics enjoys a wintry treat!

Books for Topics posted a great review for our favourite winter book recently under its Autumn/Winter school themed topics:

The Snowflake Mistake is by Lou Treleaven and illustrated by Maddie Frost.

Young children will love snuggling up with this story on a wintry day! Within a floating ice palace high above the clouds, the Snow Queen operates a snowflake machine, ensuring that it produces perfectly identical flakes. But one day when the Queen leaves her daughter Ellie in charge, the machine breaks and Ellie has to find a new way to make the snowflakes. Ellie creates exquisite and unique snowflakes by hand, making the most beautiful snowfall ever. We really enjoyed this imaginative story celebrating uniqueness and creativity, accompanied by its charming illustrations and soft, wintry colour palette. The instructions for making paper snowflakes are included on the final page and we can see this book being relished in Early Years and KS1 classrooms as part of winter themed topics.

How Do You Do Mr Gnu spread1

‘Coughlan’s simple but clever story is a joy and the inventive illustrations of Maddie Frost bring the galumphing Mr Gnu to glorious, graceless life from the moment he tears open his invitation to have tea with the Queen through a dramatic train ride, an action-packed swim up the Thames, a rip-roaring museum visit and an encounter with the household cavalry.’

‘A fun & enjoyable story’ Great review from Rae Reads for Gnu!

Rae Reads had nothing but praise for How do you do, Mr Gnu? by Billy Coughlan and illustrated by Maddie Frost

How Do You Do Mr Gnu spread1

‘As we had been to London last year this was the perfect book to capture their attention and imagination. As I read we talked about the various places in the book that we had visited and about Mr Gnu himself.
The story is a good length and kept both of my little ones attention which can be difficult at times. As soon as I finished reading before I even closed the book my little girl was saying again, again!’
