We’re very pleased to announce that three of Maverick’s favourite titles will be shown next week on RTE, Ireland’s national television and radio broadcaster.

RTE have an Irish Sign Language programme, Signed Stories, which is on every day and features members of the RTE team enthusiastically telling stories with props and backdrops and all manners of exciting things making story time and picture books accessible to young, deaf children.

Next week is Irish Sign Language Awareness week and to celebrate, RTE will show three of Maverick’s stories on the programme.

Regina and Dolly who write at, Diapers and Daydreams have reviewed the latest George the Giraffe and Friends story by Alice HemmingGeorge and the New Craze

Dolly and George

“Dolly really loves George. I mean REALLY. We read “A Gold Star for George” at least once a week, for over a year now. (You can check out that review here) She had a good laugh at the animals looking for cards in the garbage! “Yucky” she said 🙂 We love this creative story of friendship and teamwork, and a main character who knows what it means to problem solve.”

“Galloping into the big time!” Reviews for our latest books from Pam Norfolk

The lovely Pam, who writes for the Lancashire Evening Post, has written some reviews for our latest books!

Not Enough for Queen FluffLR RGB JPEG

Not Enough for Queen Fluff

“This new rhyming extravaganza, brought to life by Catalina Echeverri’s gloriously detailed and characterful illustrations, sees the born ‘poetess’ on top form […] Lyon works her trademark magic in a story bursting with rhyme, some sound common sense and plenty of giggles as the bunnies fill their burrows with nasty nettles, prickly thistles, stinging bees and wriggly worms to deter their fanciful queen from staying the night.”

George and the New Craze

Alice Hemming, who is passionate about picture books, plays a winning card in this gentle but fun story with a surprise twist in the tail, while illustrator. Kimberley Scott turns the menagerie of animals into quirky, lovable little characters. Perfect bedtime reading…”

“Certainly made me chuckle” – review for George and the New Craze

George and the New Craze LR RGB JPEG

Mary, who writes at Over 40 and a Mum to One, has reviewed the newest addition to the George the Giraffe and Friends series by Alice Hemming, George and the New Craze.

George and the New Craze 2 LR RGB JPEG

“But the story line certainly made me chuckle. I can vividly remember my brother and his Panini sticker books and football cards were the rage, even in the dark ages of my own childhood. There’s a funny story line and we’ve enjoyed reading this picture book together.”

George and the New Craze – review!

Lovely new review for the latest adventure from George the Giraffe and his friends at the Heavenly Hippo Wildlife park! Jill has reviewed George and the New Craze on Red Reading Hub.

George and the New Craze LR RGB JPEG

“The doings of the Wildlife Park inhabitants continue to delight  and I particularly love that spread of Kimberley Scott’s displaying all ninety-nine cards plus spares. Did I notice a certain MD of a certain publishing company thereon?? Spot him too in the album spread, left-hand side, bottom row, third card along.”

Thanks for the lovely review Jill!

“Beginner readers need quality books to read.” Early readers review

Melissa, who writes at Honey Bee Books, has tried and tested our early readers and has written us a lovely review!

Feb Early Reader collage

We completely agree with her that children need high quality early readers to encourage and enhance their reading skills. We take high quality, engaging stories and work to carefully edit them to be the best possible tools to help children learn to read. Here’s what Melissa had to say:

“I am a strong believer that beginner readers need quality books to read. Not only should the books be aimed at their reading level to practise their reading skills and build confidence but they story needs to be engaging as well. I want my children to enjoy reading, not see it as just another part of their homework. I think Maverick have managed to combine these qualities in their Early Reader series. The early readers have been adapted from their picture book range, so they are high quality stories that are fun and engaging. They have also been carefully edited with the help of an educational specialist to ensure the books are suitable for young children learning to read.”

Big thumbs up for our Early Readers from Madhouse Family Reviews

We’ve had another great endorsement for our early readers, this time from Madhouse Family Reviews!

Early Readers Collage Image

The Early Readers have retained the atmosphere, fun stories and appealing illustrations of the originals, just in a simplified, more accessible form.

As Pierre already knows the stories from listening to me read him the originals, he’s been really excited about trying to read them himself. The fact that he already knows the essence of the tales increases his confidence and helps him sound out some of the more difficult words.

As both a teacher and a parent, the series, and the accompanying learning resources, get a big thumbs up from me.
We couldn’t ask for a better endorsement! Read the full review here.

“The perfect start to a lifetime of reading…”

Yet another wonderful review for our early readers! This time the praise comes from loyal Maverick supporter, Pam Norfolk, who writes for the Lancashire Evening Post.

Early Readers Collage Image

“An enchanting series of five Early Reader books has been adapted from the original picture books so that young children, who may recognise and already love the stories, can make the important transition from listener to reader. […] Young children just starting to get the hang of sentences and sounds will love reading these funny, engaging stories. […] The perfect start to a lifetime of reading.”

With children across the country back for the new school year, we hope that many of them will find their reading confidence and joy with Maverick early readers! Read the full review here.

George is swimming in gold star reviews!

Dolly and Regina wrote the most adorable review for the most adorable giraffe in children’s books. A Gold Star for George received 5 Dolly Heads for excellence!

Dolly gold star george

I love this creative story of friendship and teamwork, and a main character who is selfless and knows what it means to have good self-esteem, even when a bit disappointed. George once again proves there is no “i” in “team” and that being a good friend makes you a real winner.

Dolly and I are big fans of George and look forward to reading more stories about him! We hope to get our paws on a copy of “The Black and White Club” by author Alice Hemming! We love the bright, quirky and humorous elements to these illustrations, particularly the great faces from each of the zoo animals. If it was us handing out the gold stars, George would have a fence-full. Author Alice Hemming gets 5 Dolly Heads (gold stars) for this thoughtful, funny and lovely book.

We love Kimberley’s illustrations too! She really captures the heart of the animals of the Heavenly Hippo’s Wildlife Park! Thank you for lovely review!
