‘This thrilling story has enough comic gory details and humour to appeal to young readers’ Armadillo Magazine enjoys the dark humour of Buttercup Sunshine and the Zombies of Dooooom!

Armadillo Magazine has published a cracking review of junior fiction title Buttercup Sunshine and the Zombies of Doooom by Colin Mulhern in its latest Winter 2018 issue:

A story equally dark and funny, this book introduces a character who is feisty, practical and fearless.  Confronted by imminent danger Sunshine reacts with a totally rational approach, which offsets brilliantly the wacky scenario producing laugh-out-loud moments.

This thrilling story has enough comic gory details and humour to appeal to young readers who will also enjoy the funny cartoons that punctuate every chapter.

This book is presented in a friendly and accessible layout to attract reluctant readers as well.’

‘A delightful and whimsical story’ Armadillo Magazine reviews Froggy Day!

Armadillo Magazine has reviewed new picture book Froggy Day by Heather Pindar with illustrations by Barbara Bakos in its latest Winter 2018 issue:

‘This is a delightful and whimsical story for the very young reader.

The author and illustrator have really brought this story to life; it is all about the play on words that we are so very fond of and young children will be delighted when they grasp what is being said. The illustrator has created a fun world with bright and humorous pictures that really add to the whole story.  It is the kind of book that you can read to an individual or to small groups …

Overall the whole idea of using a single word and then manipulating it in a variety of circumstances would create some fun activities for the classroom.’

Thank you!

‘A splendid book which deserves a place on every small person’s reading menu’ Armadillo Magazine enthuses about Not My Hats!

Not My Hats Cover LR RGB JPEG

Armadillo Magazine‘s Summer 2018 issue carries a glowing review for picture book Not My Hats! by Tracy Gunaratnam with illustrations by Alea Marley:

‘Marley’s illustrations are a perfect match for the energetic text, with plentiful detail in each spread for a child to explore and talk about whilst being simple, colourful and full of character.  When a two-year-old and a five-year-old both laugh out loud at the same time it’s clear that the book is a gem. In this case it is an absolute riot! The children especially loved Hettie’s ‘hatmosphere’ and had great fun deciding on our own favourite hats (the crab hat, blue hat and fancy hoity toity hat in case you’re interested). Hettie’s increasing emphatic refusal to swap a hat for a gnome, a comb or a dog with a bone was another particular highlight.

With hugely memorable rhyming lists for readers to join in with, this is a splendid book which deserves a place on every small person’s reading menu.  This is a brilliant book for young children. We highly recommend it.’

Thank you so much!

‘A hilarious adventure with plenty of twists and turns’ Armadillo Magazine reviews Arlo, Mrs Ogg and the Dinosaur Zoo!

Arlo Mrs Ogg and the Dinosaur Zoo Cover LR RGB JPEG

Armadillo Magazine has posted a great review for Summer Reading Challenge 2018 book Arlo, Mrs Ogg and the Dinosaur Zoo by Alice Hemming, illustrated by Kathryn Durst:

[The book] finds the completely unruly, disobedient and unteachable 4X in need of a teacher who can teach them, welcome Mrs Ogg and the adventure of a lifetime!  A trip to the zoo can’t possibly be the answer can it?  Well when it is no ordinary zoo and Mrs Ogg is no ordinary supply teacher, yes, it can!  A hilarious adventure with plenty of twists and turns …’

We are so glad you enjoyed it!

‘Highly recommended for nurseries, classrooms and libraries and for family use’ Armadillo Magazine Winter 2017 reviews!

Armadillo Magazine has just made its Winter 2017 reviews live and we are so pleased two of our recent picture books are included:

Bonkers About Beetroot Spread 2 LR RGB JPEG

‘In Bonkers About Beetroot, Cath Jones has written a great story about the determination to succeed and achieve what you want despite the negative attitudes of people around you, and Chris Jevons‘s artwork really brings it to life.  As with other picture books form Maverick, it’s size and distinctive square shape make it ideal for sharing with a little one by your side, but it will also be a good one to read aloud in class as children will love it – finding lots to laugh at along the way.’

Rooster Wore Skinny Jeans Spread 1 LR RGB JPEG

‘This is a lovely picture book that cheerfully smashes gender stereotypes.  What a delightful protagonist Rooster is, and what important messages his return to confidence and pride gives, in particular that there is nothing wrong in being different; that everyone can be special in their own way.

The rhyming text is funny and clever, and begs to be read aloud.  The illustrations are wonderfully colourful and exuberant and complement the words perfectly.  Highly recommended for nurseries, classrooms and libraries and for family use.’

Rooster Wore Skinny Jeans is by Jessie Miller and illustrated by Barbara Bakos.

Armadillo Magazine has reviewed Wishker and The Snugglewump in its latest issue! ‘Two lovely titles for little children to enjoy, vibrant, funny and easy to read and share stories.’

Snugglewump LR spread2

The Sungglewump by Lou Trevelean, illustrated by Kate Chappell, is a rhyming story that children will be clamouring for at bedtimes as it will make them feel warm and snuggly and ready to sleep, just be warned, multiple readings night after night will be required!’

Wishker Spread 2 LR RGB JPEG

‘Whilst Wishker by Heather Pindar, illustrated by Sarah Jennings, is the clever title for a story which teaches children that to wish for things is not always the answer.  Your wishes can sometimes come true and the reality may not always be what was expected!  A good story for sharing with children who are not always as patient and understanding as they ought to be!’
