‘Engaging and relevant to a teenage audience’ The Learning Hub reviews some new Graphic Reluctant Readers!

The Learning Hub at the University of Reading Institute of Education recently posted some lovely comments about our new Graphic Readers for reluctant teenage readers:

We were excited to receive a new selection of Graffix Books from Maverick this week, particularly as the next two books in the ‘Helix’ series were included and we couldn’t wait to find out what happened next to Mato, Kes and Shak!

Graffix readers are short, comic style stories thoughtfully structured to support struggling readers and help build their confidence. ‘Walk-through’ sections at the beginning and ‘Explore’ quizzes at the end also offer great opportunities for developing understanding of and interest in the text and characters. Most importantly, the illustrations and wide ranging themes are both engaging and relevant to a teenage audience.

Our favourites this time include ‘Jinx’ where bullying gets a magical solution and ‘Off Beat’ where rival bands take to the stage to try to win the Clash of the Bands competition!’
