Review for Four Little Pigs from ‘Truth About Books”
Cute variation on “The Three Little Pigs” fairytale…
This entertaining adaptation of the original classic “The Three Little Pigs”, in which the story is turned on its head by the introduction of a fourth little pig in the guise of a magically altered little boy called Tom, is both fun and quirky.
Colourful illustrations bring the story to life, as Tom visits his magical Grandmother, who happens to be a witch! But a nice witch, of course. Before settling down to sleep, Granny Mag suggests reading “The Three Little Pigs” to her grandson; only he’s not so keen. In fact, Tom thinks that reading is dull and that the story itself is boring because he’s heard it before. Mischievously, Granny Mag transports Tom into the story book – and from there, the story takes an extraordinary turn.
There really is little to fault in this charming little book. That said, we really wouldn’t have chosen the font it uses. A simpler, cleaner font would be far easier on the eye.
The Four Little Pigs brings a breath of fresh air into a well worn children’s fairytale, exemplifying how each of us has the power to create stories of our own – but for those of us without a magical Granny, we’ll just have to make do with using our imagination.

Kimara & Zoa in the West Sussex County Times:

Review for Kimara Nye’s Four Little Pigs on the BookBag
“…I read this story with my five year old daughter and she really loved it. Because she already knows the original story, she could appreciate the twists and she was also able to predict what she thought might happen. It’s a very entertaining story that’s told with great humour. I think most children will love the way the wolf gets his comeuppance in many ways.
The story is written in a very accessible way and sounds like a traditional tale. There is quite a lot of text for a picture book but this is interspersed with some colourful and comical illustrations that all help with the telling of the story. Sometimes the author draws attention to specific words or phrases by using bold font or making these words seemingly twist and turn across the page. My daughter loves noticing these features as we read together.
The Four Little Pigs is the sort of story that will appeal to most children…” (more…)

Get Ahead Fred Review
Get Ahead Fred by Daisy Dawes is published in paperback by Maverick Arts Publishing, priced £5.99. Available now.
Charming and original, this new book for children employs an appealing visual style to bring a story about a man, and his new hat, to life.
Fred is extremely proud of his hat collection, but when the Queen comes to visit Fred’s hobby lands him in hot water!
Deftly created by artist and writer Daisy Dawes, Get Ahead Fred is an original and entertaining story for younger readers.
In her debut book, Dawes’s previous experience working as a model maker on productions such as Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone really comes into its own.

Get Ahead Fred BookBag Review
“Get Ahead Fred has a lot of nice touches. I particularly enjoyed seeing through Fred’s hat collection – it felt like a headwear version of Monty Python’s Cheese Shop sketch…
…In a change from most picture books, the illustrations are models which have been photographed. These models are packed with character, have a familiar style that will immediately click with children, and set the mood wonderfully. The style is mostly seen with the sort of TV tie-in book that we tend to shy away from, but it’s super with an original story. The quality bodes really well for future books from Daisy Dawes.”

Here is some quotes from the press release:
“Norfolk schoolgirl Ellie Hitchcock-Wyatt is enjoying the sweet, sweet taste of success as a published author – at the age of just 12.
Ellie’s new book, Princess Chloe and the Sugar Bun Fairies, is a fairytale with a modern twist involving colourful characters made entirely from doughnuts, sweets and icing, and is already on the shelves of bookshops across the country.
On October 28 she will be reading extracts of her sugary story to customers between 12 noon and 3pm – and signing copies – at the Castle Street branch of Waterstone’s in Norwich as a special half-term event.
More than 30 Waterstone’s UK branches are currently stocking the book.”
