Dog Detectives go to St Mary’s

A top of the morning to you all. Detective Jack and I are still coming down from all the excitement of the book reading party in London. What a success it was!

The Dog Detectives were invited to St. Mary’s Primary School in Pulborough. What a lovely and enthusiastic bunch of children. The ‘Outback Odyssey’ was again a whale of a hit. Detective Jack showed off the iPad version of the story and the children loved interacting with the characters in the book. The dancing bunnies, flying kookaburras and snoring dingoes made everyone laugh and the bunnies riding a tandem bicycle across the screen was a crowd favourite.

The Dog Detectives are jumping on their bicycles this morning and heading south to the coast. Detective Jack and I will be visiting another primary school, getting more children excited about ‘An Outback Odyssey’.

Keep an eye out for the Dog Detectives on the road and honk your horn if you see us. Hopefully we will have time to stop at the funfair in Brighton. Round and round we go!

pocoaeroplaneTop of the morning to you all!

Hot diggity dogs! Detective Jack and I are busting with brilliant news. The Dog Detectives are headed for London!! Yes, you heard right. Our first book ‘Outback Odyssey’ is being launched at The Lemonade Factory on September 30th.  We can’t wait to meet you.

In our book there are dingoes, bunnies, lizards, an emu and our good friends William K. Wombat and Katie the Kookaburra. Not only will you get a first look at our fabulous new book, you will also be able to see the story come to life on the iPad with all kinds of interactive animations and sounds!

So exciting! We are paws over tails about it. Detective Jack bought a smashing new scarf and is practicing his best British accent. He can’t stop dreaming about chocolate covered hobnobs, baked beans, and marmite.

Move over Big Ben, here come the Dog Detectives. Cheerio!

Aussie Camels

camels in AussieGood Morning! Deputy Poco Loco here, barking with excitement. What a morning we have had. As the sun rose, the Dog Detectives were riding high atop camels (yes there are camels in the Outback…Lots of them!). A dogolistic thrill of thrills I tell you! Detective Jack, camel rider extraordinaire, did not fall off as I expected. He might be ready for the Camel Cup race after all.

Camels aren’t the grumbling spitting stubborn animals they are often made out to be. Camel’s slipper-like feet make hardly any noise. It was so peaceful that could hear the wind sighing, the call of a kookaburra and the sound of the eucalyptus leaves rustling. That is until Detective Jack let out a ripper of a burp. It must have been all the pies he ate, hee hee.

Outback Stars

ddblogDeputy Poco Loco reporting from under the sparkling night sky of the Australian Outback.  Did you know that the Australian Outback (the same one as in the Outback Odyssey) is one of the world’s best places for star-gazing? The most famous constellation (group of stars) in Australia is called the Southern Cross. It’s called the Southern  Cross because:

a)      You can only see it from down under in the southern hemisphere, not like in places north of the equator such as England.

b)      The stars make a sparkling shimmering cross. Pretty cool, hey?

Explorers of the southern hemisphere used the Southern Cross to guide them when sailing. By looking at the Cross, they could figure out in which direction to sail without getting lost. Maybe we can use it to find our way through the Outback. Who needs GPS when you have the stars to guide you?

Cane Toads!

shutterstock_51418987Detective Jack is still catching a few zzzz’s, so I’ve been whipping us up some grub for breakfast today.

Ever since I woke up with a cane toad in my sleeping bag I don’t sleep as well!

Cane toads weren’t always in Australia. They were brought in almost a century ago to clean up the bugs in the sugar cane fields. Well they have made themselves at home and now they have spread almost half way across Australia! 40 kilometres each year. Imagine if cane toads started riding bicycles-  they’d be across to Perth in time for Christmas lunch…

Well, it’s time to wake Detective Jack up. Our vegemite and witchity grubs on toast is ready. Yum!

the Equator

G’day all, it’s Deputy Poco Loco on the go, writing from down under…

It is mid-July now, the middle of the Australian winter and guess what? It’s still warm! Australia is south of the equator, that imaginary line that wraps around the world smack dab in the middle between the north and south poles. So while it may be snowing in Russia, everyone in Australia might be going for a swim in their togs.

That’s what they call swim wear down here. Everything is back to front here, or maybe it is front to back? I can’t work it out.

It’s a good thing that it is winter. If we tried to cycle across the Outback in summer Detective Jack would probably melt into a big chocolate pool from all the Tim Tams he has been eating. Imagine that!

I would have to do all the pedaling and detective work by myself. No thanks! It’s much better to work as a team.

Hooray Dog Detectives!

Poco Loco!

poco locoG’day readers, let me introduce myself. It is Deputy Poco Loco here, the brains and nose behind The Dog Detectives. The sniffiest of the sniffer dogs. I’m in Outback Australia at the moment with my good mate Detective Jack. I’ve been busy with all the usual – you know, cycling, sniffing, digging up clues and solving all kinds of mysteries.

Just between you and me, we haven’t been cycling too far lately though. Detective Jack ate the rest of our Anzac biscuits this morning and decided he would sleep it off. Our bicycle is starting to get weighed down by all the tasty treats floating around in his belly.

Well the flies are starting to bug me, so I’ll say goodbye for now.
Smell you later…
Deputy Poco Loco
