Fred's Heads

Gettings hat fans!  I went back to school this week.  I joined the children of Kingsley Primary and Woodcote Primary for a few hours.

We had lots of hat related fun with Daisy reading out my book and then all the children having a go at designing me a new hat (I obviously haven’t learnt my lesson!).  I made lots of new friends and taught them all about all my different hats.

I can’t wait until I do another school reading!

fredlaptopWhat a busy week I have had this week. I’ve been gallivanting around the country (well Chester, Liverpool and Manchester) meeting fellow hat fans in Waterstone’s.  I’m currently in Liverpool – just using a short moment to write this, in between book readings.  I am getting quite good at this Internet malarkey.  I now have a Facebook page, a MySpace and I’m on YouTube, not bad for a small town man.

Well I better go, as I am the star of the show but I will fully update you when I am back.

Till then.

Northern Tour

fredhandoutNot long now until my Northern Tour!  I am trying to decide what hat to wear…perhaps a top hat?  Or an Easter bonnet?  Or I could wear a different hat for each event?  If you have any suggestions please email me (fred@maverickbooks.co.uk), as I just don’t know which one to wear!

Then at the end of the tour we are going to have a party in my honour!  Well I am the main character in Get Ahead Fred! There is going to be food, music and hopefully lots of different hats.

It’s going to be so much fun!

fredHello everyone!

I have been on my travels this week, up to Holme Village in Lancashire.

Fellow hat-lover Mrs Walker, teacher at Holme School took all her hats in for the children to wear when she read my adventures out to the class on World Book Day on March 4.

Afterwards I popped in to see my friends Eddie and Sue at the Post Office. I sent all my parcels and sat down to read my book with a bag of Blue Raspberry Bonbons… my favourite!

I’m really looking forward to more readings and signings on April 7 at Waterstone’s Chester, April 8 at Waterstone’s Manchester Deansgate and April 9 in Liverpool at Waterstone’s on Bold Street.

Keep your eyes peeled for more info on the events page!

See you there, hatfans!!

Cowboy Fred

Cattle control!

Farmer Silo rang in a panic this week – his prize bull had broken loose!
There’s nothing worse than a runaway beast – luckily I had my lasso handy.

As you know I have a hat for every occasion and this cattle conundrum called for something special.
I picked up a rather fetching red and blue stetson while out on a ranching holiday in Texas last year – perfect!

When I got to Farmer Silo’s house the bull was busy trampling his garden.
I opened the gate carefully and stepped inside. The bull took one look at my red had and decided to charge!
Maybe this hat was not such a good idea… I hope I’m not the one seeing stars!

In a split second I reached for my lasso and roped him in.

Those cowboy lessons really paid off!

Yeeeehaaaaa!

Food for Thought…

freddeliWalking past the harbour I spotted a cormorant diving for his dinner. He vanished under water with a sploosh and reappeared seconds later right over the other side!

There were plenty of other sea birds on the shore, with oystercatchers running in and out with the waves and turnstones flipping the rocks in the hope of a tasty morsel. I’m sure the seagulls are longing for summer, so they can swoop on unsuspecting tourists for their ice cream and chips! Hmm… all this talk of food is making me hungry. Time for a trip to the deli I think!

Another party!

fredblogpedThere’s going to be a big party at Koob beach and all my friends will be there. I love a party and, after deciding what to wear (my favourite glittery fedora of course!) I will head down the cliff to meet everyone. Harry and Netty said they will bring lots of tasty treats to eat, with multi-coloured fruit and veg, marshmallow kebabs and jelly. All the bears will be on their best behaviour at the buffet (though I’m sure Greedy Bear’s plate will be bigger than everyone else’s!).

The Dogs of Rock might pop down quickly to play ‘Happy Birthday’ and Sushi the Sausage Dog is supposed to be accompanying them on the tambourine. Fairy Twinkle and Princess Chloe I am sure will be the first on their feet!

Fantastic! I’m very excited!

Tidy Up!

shelvesI have been snowed in this week, so I have been doing some much-needed repairs around the house.

First I started in the kitchen, where a floorboard had come loose. Then up the bathroom to fix my dripping tap and across the landing to the bedroom to fix a drawer that had been jammed. I pulled at the drawer but it wouldn’t budge. I tried pushing it hard the other way but still no luck. One more pull and suddenly the drawer flew out in my hand. It was then I spotted the cause of the problem

…To my delight I fished out an old beret that I had forgotten all about. Classic French style, bought in Paris during my first visit to Fashion Week. Amazing! A properly crafted hat can stand up to most things (even being jammed in a drawer). A wonderful reward for all my hard work around the house!

Bobble Trouble…

Fredsnow

I love the snowy weather, but I had to do an urgent repair job on my favourite winter hat this week…

Just like you, I awoke to find my street covered in a blanket of crisp white snow. I could hear excited voices from the park next door to my house – everyone was out, wrapped up warm, for a sledging session!
I had a rummage around in the shed and found my old sledge. I blew the cobwebs away and it looked as good as new. Putting on my favourite blue bobble hat, I raced up the hill to the park to join in the fun.

I teetered on the top of the hill and launched at speed down the snowy slope. I didn’t realise that the runner on my old sledge had become loose and I was soon heading straight for a thicket of fir trees!

My hat snagged on the low-hanging branches and the bobble tore right off. Luckily I always carry a needle and thread in case of emergencies.

The sledge is still a bit worse for wear but at least my bobble is back where it belongs!

Do you have any resolutions?
I’m going to re-organise my hat closet into alphabetical order. Baseball hat, beret, bonnet, bowler…

Spring will be with us shortly and as soon as the first snowdrop pokes its head above the soil, I’m going to pack my hat cases and go and visit some of my friends up and down the country. Perhaps I’ll see you on my travels…
